Matsalu National Park

Situated in the Northern part of Europe, Estonia is a beautiful country with a unique geographical location. Estonia is located between Latvia and Russia and is separated from European nations like Finland and Sweden by Gulf of Finland and Baltic Sea respectively. Estonia has got great natural beauty and there are lot of tourist attractions scattered all over the country where large number of tourists gather every year. Apart from its natural beauty, museums, religious monuments and historic monuments, the wildlife and greenery is a major tourist attraction of Estonia. There are several national parks located in different parts of the country that attract large number of domestic and international tourists. Matsalu National park is one such tourist attraction and destination in Estonia.

Matsalu National Park is situates in the West of Estonia and is one of the most beautiful parks in the country. Matsalu National Park was established in the year 1957 with an aim to to protect nesting and moulting of migratory birds. In the year 1976, Matsalu National Park was included in the group of wetlands of international importance. The park has got a wide collection of wildlife and is home to 275 species of birds, 49 pieces of fishes and 47 species of mammals. You would also get to see 772 species of vascular plants. You would also enjoy the unique landscapes and several floodplains, reed bed, coastal meadows, wooded meadows and islets.

A section of the Matsalu National Park introduces you with the traditional Estonian style of agriculture and you would also have a fair idea about the development in the pattern and system of agriculture in the country from time to time. In fact a large part of the land of Matsalu National Park are given to local farmers in rent and they uses the land for various agricultural activities like fishing, pasturing, hay making and forestry.
